General Description

A terrestrial herb. Leaves 3–5, narrowly elliptic, minutely tridentate at acute apex, 9–24 cm long, 2–4.5 cm wide, ciliate on basal margins, mottled pale and dark green above, purplish at base below. Inflorescence 1-flowered; peduncle elongate, 30–45 cm long, purple or green, mottled purple, shortly pubescent; bract elliptic, subacute to acuminate, 2–4.5 cm long, 1.5–1.8 cm wide, green, with purplish mid-vein, pubescent and ciliate. Flower 6–8 cm across; pedicel and ovary 5–8 cm long, green, pubescent. Dorsal sepal ovate, acute, 3.4–4.7 cm long, 3–3.9 cm wide, white veined green and purple-spotted towards base. Synsepal ovate-elliptic, acute, 4–4.4 cm long, 1.7–2.1 cm wide, white veined green. Petals deflexed-recurved, ligulate, acute, 4.5–6.5 cm long, 1.1–1.8 cm wide, white veined green, purple at apex, heavily spotted with maroon, margin bearing long purple-maroon hairs in basal half and shorter ones towards apex. Lip green, flushed pink with dark green veins, 4–4.5 cm long, 2.1–2.5 cm wide, glandular-pubescent within; side-lobes maroon-spotted. Staminode lunate, 7–9 mm long, 11 mm wide, pale brownish green, veined green, pubescent; apical side-lobes sickle-shaped, acute. 2n = 38.
